New ‘pop’ songs were always emerging from the dance ground, while older styles of lyre songs showed their musical adaptability while their words evoked current goings-on, seriously or satirically, moulding a whole new generation of memory. The lyre player here is Hosiah Dangaye Chalma. Examples of other evolving song styles may be heard in the audio clips section on this website. Meanwhile the church choirs worked hard at maintaining the disciplined style of the hymn book first launched back home in the 1950s.
