Jerry-can dance
In Bonga, in the early dry season after the ripened maize has been harvested from around the huts, spaces are cleared for dancing. The jerry-can players are feted by several hundred dancers who join the circling throng - and a small amount of maize-beer may be up for sale, something that the elders disapprove as ‘it would not have happened in the old days’.
